This Mexican restaurant serves the best chicken enchiladas, shredded beef burritos, and pork tamales I have ever eaten in my 69 years. The portions are just right and there is no serving of rice and beans to stretch the meals out, unlike other Mexican restaurants. Thus, the eater can just eat what he wants without the filler.

La Hacienda provides the best Mexican food in Chapel Hill/Durham--much better, exquisitely seasoned entrees than the chains El Rodeo or Toreros--which make so-so main entrees always served with rice and beans.

My cell phone was misplaced at the restaurant and then immediately turned off. I am certain that one of the staff stole it. Upon following up the next day to see if the closing crew found it, I was hung up on. Not going back!

Unlike most Mexican restaurants, La Hacienda doesn't just serve a main entrée with rice and beans on the side. The shredded beef burritos, chicken enchiladas, and pork tamales (which DO have heat) are the best I have ever had and are reasonably priced. As a former Los Angeles resident, I am very picky regarding the Mexican food I eat, and in North Carolina, La Hacienda has proven to be the tops!
Chips were excellent. Service excellent after initial long wait. The sope was excellent, but the carnitas torta was somewhat disappointing--basically lacked some flavor and the main ingredients (pork, beans) seemed to cancel each other out. Not bad but not memorable.
Reasonable prices. A great deal of care is put into food preparation. Portions are generous. Chips and salsa average; salsa picante (red) with dinner is outstanding. Great patio. Eat outdoors when possible, as inside can be very noisy. Service is variable; we waited 15+ minutes to order until the waiter realized no one else was taking care of our table, but from that point on it was excellent.
Waiter forgot to put our order in took about 45 minutes to get our small order.
The food can be inconsistent, but in general is good.
This is the best Mexican food I have eaten in Durham over the past 20 years I have been going here. Superb, spicy pork tamales, meaty chicken enchiladas,tasty shredded beef burritos, perfect chile rellenos! Their freshly made green hot sauce adds just the right amount of heat and makes you glow inside.
very disapointed in the quality of the rueben sand. we had very tough&thick cut.not like it used to b,thin cut & tender!!!.prices are super high for lunch! $50.thank god for a coupon! probably why no one was there!!average working person cannot afford this place!!!

As always, we were warmly greeted by the hostesses and Joseph stopped by our table several times to check on us and welcome us back to The Yard. Stephanie was our server for the first time and she was very helpful and friendly. She made sure that I got a safe gluten-free meal. Thank you to the chef and all of our friends at The Yard. We'll see you in March!

The server is exceptional! Maryanne (26498) is always so personable, friendly and treats us (and all patrons in the restaurant) with respected and offers suggestions as to drinks and food. I will always wait for a table in Maryanne's section. I'm always left with a positive impression of the restaurant and mostly Maryanne. KUDOS to your management for hiring Maryanne and KUDOS to her for being such a great person and making us feel like we were the only ones in her section.

My server was very sweet. She immediately sat us and brought out chips and salsa with my drink. Even though it is a Mexican restaurant, I got a burger but it was so delicious!

The restaurant was practically empty and still took longer than average to receive our order. Once we did one of the meals was wrong, and took at least 10-15 minutes for the waiter to come back to ask. Another 20 minutes to receive the fixed meal. Food was mediocre, and getting refills was a challenge.
The waiter was a little slow. Seemed like there should have been one more waiter in the restaurant.

Ambience and comfort ability were selling points; however, food was subpar less the raw oysters.

We received a warm and friendly welcome from Luis when we arrived. We were able to sit in our favorite comfortable booth in the back. Joseph, a waiter that we have had before greeted us also. Tyre was our waiter again and he took excellent care of us, especially since I have to eat strictly gluten-free. Our chef, hand delivered my heirloom carrots to me and was very kind and said to let him know if he could do anything else for us. It was an around lovely dinner. We have been dining at your restaurant before every show that we attend at the Hippodrome. The food has improved greatly since last fall. Thank you all!
The food is fantastic. Happy hour is great too. We had been there before and made this a return trip. The crabcakes were huge and reasonably priced. The appetizers were plentiful too.
Mike and Maria are great bartenders. Adam, the executive chef, makes very delicious food. Mussels were delicious and so was the crabcake sandwich!!
The server was very professional, personable, funny and all wonderful person. I forgot her name but she dose deserves kudos.

Being met at the entrance by the smiling faces of the kind lady who is the hostess and our former waiters, Joseph and Tyre, was very welcoming. The lady who found us a table didn't know us, but was very nice. Joseph was our waiter this time and he took great care of us, especially my need for a gluten-free meal. The chef did a wonderful job and our food was exceptionally delicious! Our drinks were great also. We look forward to dining here again!
We were seated too close to the cantina. It was noisy and not relaxing. Service was inattentive.

The food is good and you get plenty of it for the price. The décor is a little on the outdated side and the seats at the bar to me are uncomfortable to sit in. Other than that I will continue to eat here because my husband and I like the food.
The servings were large, and each of us took home a box. Before ordering, I asked several questions about what a certain item was. The waiter was helpful.

Server needs to listen to the customers more carefully. One table at a time, instead of trying to do several tables and can't do it right. Special order needs to communicate with kitchen staffer and food needs to be bring out when it is still hot, not warm.
The food and service were very good. But, the item ordered was not as it had been described on the menu. They added some items, and left off others.
The four of us were the only people having dinner during the time we spent in the restaurant. All of us wondered why. It was a bit uncomfortable.

The two Margaritas cocktails were awful. They looked like were prepared with food coloring, and the taste was tremendously syrupy! We had to add water in order to drink them. We were in a hurry, and did not think to return them as inadequate, too bad! The food was average.

I like the menu selection in that it's not standard Tex-Mex / Mexoamerican fare. That said, the food I ordered was only average, and some items were not even as god as at your average Tex Mex place. We found the guacamole particularly dissappointing. There's also something sad about dining in a huge restaurant that always has more than half the sections closed. That plus the hard time the server gave us when I presented our Restaurant.com gift certificate ("No use specials with coupon!") and the less than snappy service, I won't be going back. I really wanted to love this place for it's proximity to my house and it's extensive authentic menu, but even that can't make it worth it.

The coupon prompted us to try this restaurant which we had seen on the highway, but had never tried. We will definitely be back - this is our new favorite Mexican restaurant!
Menu has changed some. Corn tortillas are gross now. Not as good as the kind they used to have. Also, Arroz con Pollo dish is served very differently than most other restaurants. Would still return, but would NOT order the 2 items mentioned above.

We visit La Hacienda because with a coupon or certificate it is a great value and their food is always good and the portions large. Service has always been just okay until lately. They have a new waitress now and she is very good, and always cheerful. The service before seemed to hate their jobs. The new waitress makes the dining experience much better!

there was a plumbing malfunction in the ladies room that smelled really unpleasant when we first arrived, but it was obvious they were trying really hard to remedy the situation. it did put a bit of a damper on our dining experience a bit... but the food was still fabulous!
This is a fantastic restaurant in every respect. We have never had to complain about anything yet. We would recommend it to anyone who enjoys excellent Mexican food, and real live Mariachis on week ends, in the evening. GO THERE

we had one in our party whom didn't want mexican food. Restaurant was able to accomodate us after discussion to let him order 2 kids meals. This could be facilitated by putting maybe a hamburg or just something simple like things on kids menu for adults on main menu. Our 'adult'- 14 yrs. old almost had nothing to eat!
My wife and I are new to NC and trying to find a good place for Mexican food , this is the first one we tried and the service was fine, but the quality of the food was not what we were looking for. Very inexpensive if that's what you're looking for.

The 18% gratuity was a little excessive which didn't amount to a $25 gift card. It may have discontinued the use of this program. The gratuity percentage is very excessive for the amount taken off.
