There was only one other table in the dining room with patrons, yet the waiter got my order completely wrong (brought a beet salad instead of mushroom ravioli). Also, he wasn't attentive re: checking in to see if we wanted more bread or anything else. We also needed to call him over for our check. Also, after many years of coming, the pasta was way too salty. I noticed this in the Carlsbad location, but never here until this visit. This restaurant is a main go-to for our family's birthday celebrations. Not sure, now.
No table cloths on tables, no background music, dinning area draby looking. I recognize that we are all doing the best we can with covid, and appreciate this restaurant being open. You asked for suggestions and I've made some. Little things that make a big difference. Food was good

Our Server was great. We were early birds as we wanted to miss the crowd in this COVID 19 season. We had a great table with a wonderful view. This was out anniversary dinner and we were delighted and the food....EXCELLENT! This is not the first time we have eaten at this restaurant and we loved it so much we wanted to come back. Cudos to your chef!

Decent Italian food in a homespun environment. Better food than the ordinary places, but not for those looking for a fine dining experience. A good value for a pizza/pasta place.
The gentlemen behind the bar also took our dinner orders and handled completing our tab with my certificate on my phone! He was so patient and always smiling.

Excellent service and excellent veal Marsalis. The salad was shared and very tasty with nuts, tuitions slices and goat cheese. We also ordered spaghetti to. Go which was superb and two pieces . Would have preferred a thicker crust.

I lover coming back to this birthplace location on Cardiff. I have never had a bad meal or bad experience here. And neither has anyone whom I’ve brought here. The service is exquisite. The preparation, freshness and taste of all the dishes never disappoint. Portions are huge so you get quality and quantity for an excellent price. What a marvelous dining experience! I will always keep coming back.

Ordered soup and a pizza. Both very good. They make a delicious bread topping of tomatoes, olive oil, garlic with warm bread--delicious. Took it home!

Their food is always fresh and delicious. Split plates satisfy appetites for two people easily so we split two and included a favorite appetizer of bruschetta. I’ve never been disappointed with any meal selection.

The food and service are terrific, and the house wines are surprisingly good. Be prepared for the bistro-like atmosphere in both the bar and restaurant--very celebratory and loud--we like it!

It was busy so pretty noisy. Waiters bery stern and dont seem very hapoy to be there.
Unpleasant experience. We were not received well by the host/maître d'. He didn't even greet us, but by the way he looked at us, we assumed we should follow him to a table. We ordered our food. Ate about one-fourth of our plates and decided to box the rest and go home. We regret going to Cicciotti's to celebrate our wedding anniversary.

It’s our favorite family spot. Food is always good. Service is excellent. We left San Diego 4 years ago and when we are back this is one of our stops.
Forgot to add to my prior comments: The new menu format makes Cicciotti's seem like a diner, and not a fine-dining establishment. The old menus were certainly more sophisticated. We rarely read the menu because we've come there enough to know it by heart, but I thought it important to share what our initial impressions were of the new menu.
We are regular customers, and often sit at the bar, usually served by Frederico. Last night the bartender (not Frederico) was inattentive, the margherita pizza was bland (and delayed), and our order came out completely out of order from what we specifically requested. Not the customarily great service and food we've come to expect. We took our daughter there for her 29th birthday, and she commented that if it was her first time there, she wouldn't return.
Amazing restaurant week deal. $20pp, 3 course meal. Food was delicious, great menu to choose from. We were all very happy. When we made our reservation, we didn't know there was a restaurant week menu. Great surprise!!

The best authentic Italian food ever, service is great, food comes out on time and hot. Beautiful experience. Not expensive at all. Gluten free options. We had 4 separate dishes and all were great. I had Gluten free penne pasta with shrimp Carbonara, the best I've ever had.
Cicciotti's is such a comfortable restaurant. Since it is near the ocean, the breezes throughout the restaurant are delightful. Add the terrific staff to the equation and we are on our way to a priceless experience. Now for the food- it is consistently great. The portions arre huge and the food is delicious. All in all, a 5 star experience
Just got the appetizer ( soup) and the meals were brought out to soon! Finished the soup after our main course. Need to slow it down a bit.

Once again, Massimo and the entire staff at Cicciotti's made an incredible dinner experience for me and my guest. Tonight I was celebrating a special event with a former student of mine who is off to university. The meal (food, service, setting...whole evening) was perfect from start to finish. Each dish was beautifully presented and my companion and I felt like royalty. Even though I'd arrived an hour early for my reservation, we were seated promptly and given one of the best seats in the house! I love the way this restaurant and restaurateur make me feel like a special guest. Thank you Massimo and all of the others who made our meal spectacular. We heartily enjoyed the sauteed calamari, insalata di mare and the ravioli with shrimp. Can't wait to return! With gratitude, Eva Trieger
it was way too noisy and due to no fault of the restaurant, it was a very warm evening but their air cond. was not sufficient. our guests and ourselves were very uncomfortable. not a good experience for us.
Had a great birthday dinner, thanks to our fantastic waiter Omar. When I coudn't decide between the linguine with clams in the shell or with calamari, he offered to do a 50/50. It was delicious. He also delivered my husband's birthday dessert with a candle but no embarrassing song. My husband was most appreciative.
This would be a terrific place for a large business lunch as it is empty during lunch.

They bring warm bread and a tomato spread that was really good! Salad and caprice appetizer was also very good. I had the Lasagne Alforno, it was excellent. Our server was excellent too! Good experience, we will be back!

Food and service were good but not exceptional. The seafood soup special of the night was excellent. The veal in wine sauce was only so so. I had the eggplant parm and it was very good. We had calamari as an appetizer it was very good. My grand kids had gnocchi and salad and enjoyed their meal.

Located across from the ocean we had a table next to an open window and enjoyed the cool ocean breeze while dining. Parking can be an issue as the restaurant does not have a lot of their own and you must park just off the highway across from the restaurant. Food was well prepared service was very good.

Marsala should taste like Marsala. First time it had no flavor. Second time they must have used cooking Marsala. It was way too salty. Did not have them do it again.

It was my friend's birthday and he lives close by this restaurant so we went there on a Saturday. Our waiter said the birthday cake was free, yet they charged it (I paid without comment). And Restaurant.com certificate was taken yet the amount was not deducted from the bill and had to be adjusted. The restaurant looks rustic and food was OK. I would not want to go back to this restaurant unless I have no other choice.

Service is always good, and the view is spectacular from the dining room overlooking the ocean. Chicken Marsala is one of their best dishes, and anything with fish. We've been dining at Cicciotti's for over 15 yrs and some of the same staff and mgmt are always there, and they remember you. Food is consistently good and lovely wine list.

Really enjoyed our evening.. ate at the other one in Carlsbad last month. Food was a bit better, however this was really good thunderstorm the best chef moves back and forth.

We went for lunch on a Sunday at 2pm. They have Happy Hour from 3-7pm on Sunday which we did not wait for. Next time. I ordered the Lasagna d'Mar, it was delicious and unque. Worth the price.

We had a glass of wine while we ordered two o their delicious fire-roasted pizzas. The bar was great -- we watched our pizzas inside the oven as we visited;/drank/waited... GREAT VALUE with a discount coupon, btw! DELICIOUS and AUTHENTIC HOSPITALITY. I really felt welcomed and valued...

The prices are WAY too high for the kind of food you get. I had lasagna , it was $20 for a piece of lasagna . Ridiculous, to me. I should have enough on my plate for another meal to take home for that price.

Only negative thing was the really slow service, and no one ask if we would like a second glass of wine.
When my daughter made the reservation for us she said it was our 49th Wedding Anniversary and we wanted to hear the singer. They never acknowledged our anniversary and we could not hear the singer because we were not seated in the bar. We left by way of the exit sign but a car was blocking us and we had to wait until they found the owner so we could exit!

The food was good but for our taste it needed better flavor to make it really good and delicious. It wasn't extraordinary as we would expect. The view was nice but not spectacular, we would have wished for the restaurant to have some kind of an awning or protection against the sunlight which is very direct to the tables close to the windows (which are very few and small). The service was good but it could be more friendly and smile more with the people.

Shortly after we were seated, our server asked if we would like a drink. I asked about the house Pinot Noir, and since she wasn't sure what kind it was, she offered to go check and bring us a sample. Our server was pleasant after I told her it was our first time there, but offered little to recommend what to order. She just kept saying that everything was delicious. The bruschetta and cesear salad were delicious, but the entrees lacked flavor.

Don't ever let this gem go by for a great dining experience.We came with 4 kids after spending a day at SeaWorld and we're not even close to our cleaned up standard for most places; yet there was no uptight or snobbish staff concerned for our attire or sweat...a first class restraurant with a beautiful view; outstanding service and the impeccable cuisine to boot! My complaint is that I live in Chicago...

Corner table inside looking out to the fire pit. Did the the 3 pasta entrée as an appetizer. Bottle of Raven Wood. Because the pasta is homemade, we decided to have pasta for the main course too. Only complain was not enough mushrooms - 2 or 3 pieces of mushrooms in a mushroom gnocchi pasta. Good service until the end and we couldn't find our waiter to pay our check. It was crowded for a Weds night. All tables were taken by 6:30pm.

Add up all of the entities that make up a great restuarant and it equals Cicciottis. So, we have food, service, ambiance, ownership, convenience, price, and you add the rest.Every time we go to this restaurant the food is wonderful. Last night 3 of us shared the appetizer special- melon, prosciutto, burrata cheese, arugula, and they added truffle oil. Wow, what fun. Then we had chicken milanese and veal parmigiana and loved it.What added to the evening was Elaina, our waitress. Wait until you get involved with this delightful young lady. She bubbles with excitement and obviously loves what she is doing.The restaurant faces the Pacific Ocean and the railroad tracks are right next to the place. When a train goes by, it is another experience (the trains go fast and don't interfere).Finally, Gaetano Cicciotti, the owner puts this entire package together into a smooth running operation. It is a pleasure to watch him work because he is doing everything with such ease and always has a smile on his face. Once again, we had a perfect evening.

I think it would be easy to find fault with some things, but the pros outweighed the cons. Basically, this is a simple trattoria virtually right on the ocean/beach, so the view at sunset is gorgeous. If you stick to the classics, and ask which pastas are made in house, you will do fine. Avoid the $10 homemade gelato dessert. I think service is the luck of the draw, based on observations of other tables.

The food was pretty good but I was disappointed. I ordered a glass of wine that I disliked and could not drink and the waitress dod not come to my table for 20 minutes. We had ordered an eggplant appetizer that took a long time to cook and I waited that entire time to get wine. The eggpolant came out slightly undercooked. I also ordered a seafood pasta because it had scallops in it. The scallops were the smallest that I had ever seen and they had no flavor. When she asked how I liked it I told her that I did not really enjoy it she did not even ask what I did not like.

Cicciotti's Italian is always a totally enjoyable experience. The location in Cardiff is gorgeous with the Pacific Ocean in the background. Add a train whizzing by every once in a while and the energy of the place is perfect. Next- the food. My wife and I shared prosciutto and melon with arugula and burrata mozzorella. What an appetizer! I had the special of lamb chops and wifey had clams in oil and lots of garlic. Add a cocktail and a glass of wine and it doesn't get much better. Oh, darling sweet Carrie, our waitress. Carrie is brilliant, cute as a button, and delightful with a huge smile all evening. She made the evening better than the best.

Enjoyed the out door seating on a clear, warm night, although would be nice if chairs were a little more comfortable. Enjoyed the live music at first, but when they started singing Beatles and Elton John songs took away a bit from the ambience.

The view is great as it's a waterfront restaurant, and the service wasn't bad, but the food wasn't as good as we expected.
I Ordered Cioppino and as an avid fan of this Italian dish I was disappointed to get a bed of linguine since that was not described by the server when I asked pointed questions about the Cioppino. My suggestion is that the servers offer a better description, making sure not to leave out that it's really a pasta dish, not Cioppino.

The salad and appetizer tray were delicious. We both had veal. Mine was with capers and lemon and the wife's was with mushroom wine sauce. The flavor on both was outstanding. The only thing that took away at all was the crème brulee. Instead of fresh berries, they used a fruit reduction at the base. It tasted like berry jelly and was not good. Other than that, it was a wonderful experience.

Food experience was mixed, with main courses including Veal Picatta and Osso Buco, that were great. Appetizer and salad were disappointing. The Caesar salad had more of an "out-of-the-bottle" mayo-flavored, bland, creamy dressing rather than a homemade, savory, bright, top-notch Caesar dressing. Bruschetta was overly simple with just chopped tomatoes on bread with olive oil and garlic that was too sharp. Service and atmosphere were nice. We'll give it another try.

The food was very good. Waiters are not trained very well. They were reaching over guests to serve instead of walking around. This happened constantly by male waiters at all tables. Our waiter forgot my husbands drink and put in the wrong drink order for the table next to us.my calamari pasta was good but the menu said spicy red sauce, but the sauce had no spice to it.

Although the food was very good the prices were too high for the ambience and crowded tables squeezed into two small dining rooms. We experienced the worst service ever with an unattentive waitress who spoke a mile a minute, never picked up my husband's empty plate until I handed it to her and while I was still eating my pasta and sipping my wine she brought over the check and started closing the bill. I told her I was a restaurant critic as everyone is today and I have a couple tips for her. 1) You didn't pick up his dirty plates the three times you came to our table. 2) Never start closing the bill when your customer is still eating and drinking wine. She responded and said she was trained not to pickup dirty plates when the other party is still eating. Haha!!! Have you ever heard such a thing?! That was the first time I've ever experienced such amateur service in a high priced restaurant! The kitchen area was extremely noisy with staff throwing things around and pounding pizza dough with noise levels that overtook the good tasting food. Too bad the owner doesn't invest in a manager who could turn this neat little beach town Italian Restaurant into one that everyone writes positive reviews about. I did read the positive and negative comments on Yelp & Trip Advisor before going and still decided to give it a try with my Restaurant.com Certificate. I have to say that many of the Reviews offered accurate descriptions of the dining experience. It's not just good food that makes a good restaurant. It's excellent customer service with a smile and personal touch, not feeling like the waitress can't wait to close your bill and be done with you. If you want to eat a good meal and don't mind waiting and feeling frustrated throughout your dinner, this restaurant won't bother you. If you want to eat in peace and be served like you're special, don't go to this restaurant. There are well known Italian Restaurants in the same area that pay attention to every detail to make your dining experience the best it can be!!
Food was pretty bland. Had to add salt just to give it something. I had pasta trio and wife had mushroom pasta dish. Server kept asking how our food was tasting as we were taking our first bite. Very automated feeling. Nice ambiance tho. Caesar salad good and bruschetta great.
Restaurant was drafty, wait for order to be taken was long and to be served even longer. Linguini with shrimp and crab in garlic wine had no flavor other than fishy. Eggplant "cake" was three slices of eggplant with sauce and cheese. The menu looks wonderful, the food was terrible. We had tried the restaurant during restaurant week and weren't overly impressed, but thought it was due to timing. Saw the impressive menu and decided to try it again. Mistake.
Through dinner everything was excellent. After asking about dessert, the waitress forgot about us for at least 15 minutes, then gave a half hearted apology.
The whole dining experience was great. From the bartender to the food servers. They were attentive, helpful with suggestions on the menu and accommodating with substituting an item on a dish. The food was delicious and fresh. We had a wonderful dinner.

I had read about the staff being great, and that the restaurant is great for families. But my experience was not quite the same. My husband and I were dining with our two young daughters. There were 3 staff members standing just inside the entry, but none greeted us when we came in. They weren't in conversation or anything, just standing there. I actually had to ask "Hi, do you work here?" before we got a table. The waitress and all the servers were kind and as helpful as they could be, and that helped us start to enjoy the night. But when it was time to leave, we got the same rude service from the manager/owner/host folks. My 13 month old was asleep in my arms, my husband's hands were full with our leftovers (including a pizza we were taking to go), and he was holding on to our 4-year old's hand since the exit lead to stairs and it was a cold, rainy night and the restaurant's exterior is not very well-lit. Three staff members (I'm guessing the manager, hostess, and owner of some sort?) were standing right at the door, saw us coming, and didn't even open the door for me or hold the door as my family exited into the rain. There were just plain rude. I'm really surprised the waitstaff was as nice as they were. Usually bad attitudes on management's part transfers over to the rest of the staff, but thank goodness it wasn't the case here. No matter-- I will never come back to this place ever again.

Something was amiss in the kitchen. We waited far longer than we ordinarily do for our meal to be served, and the veal and chicken dishes were over-cooked and tough. Our server did not help the situation by avoiding us instead of periodically assuring us that our food was underway and offering additional drinks etc.
The server was very accommodating with our vegetarian preferences and attentive to us.
Best Chinese food in town!
Main entrees were very good. The portions on appetizers are small.
The restaurant was short-staffed. We didn't get our drinks until after the appetizer came. We didn't get bread until after our dinner came.
I think it was an off night for the restaurant.

After waiting over half a hour to be seated, we were not greeted by a server for another 20 minutes. With young kids getting impatient our dinner finally arrived and my wife's meal was cold. We had to flag down a server because our server did not return to check if our meals were OK. Excuses were made of being too busy. Not such a bad problem to have. Adequate staff should be able to handle a full seating without compromising service.
Beautiful location, easy to find and park, good food. Only negative I had was the service was just a little slow; that is, the food was served adequately, but the waiter was a little slow to return for a dessert order and to bring the final check and collect payment.
Fantastic menu, beautiful location and atmosphere , stellar service, food was amazing. The creme brulee with berries was perfection. We will be back:)
Fantastic food, warm relaxing ambiance, and friendly staff - though slow service...long wait times menus, food service, check, virtually everything - we LOVE it there, but you best not be in a hurry when you go ;-)

We picked on off peak time around 4pm nice and quiet enjoyed our meal! Food was great and we drove from Vista. Easy commute and parking was good.

This is a delightful restaurant. From my initial phone reservation through the entire meal, my wife and I had a wonderful experience. The food is good, the service (Carrie) EXTRAORDINARY. Carrie is a very smart young lady. She knew everything about the menu and the food descriptions. Her suggestions were spot on.The food was really good. The burrata special salad was perfect- (burrata, cantaloupe melon, arugula, and prosciutto.)My wife had veal with capers, I had spaghetti with meatballs and sausage. My wife is Italian and this was equal to eating at home. With restaurant.com, the meal was cheap! Oh, when you are eating, the scenery is the Pacific Ocean with a train going by every once in a while (no noise issue)

Seemed busy, our reservation was either in the bar or in the hallway. But, the waiter was patient and helpful. The dinner options seemed fancy and worth the price, but what arrived at out plates seems like a rip-off.
Wow. We can't say enough about this place. We LOVE everything about it. The view, food, ambiance, service --- it is all FANTASTIC! Starting with the warm bread and tomato starter, then onto fresh and unique salads, then entree choices that never end. The menu is extensive and every dish we have ever tried has been amazing. Be sure to go when you can enjoy the sunset.
